The inn
The original farmhouse was built in 1860 as part of a working farm known for soldier beans, a New England specialty crop. The home has accepted guests from far off places since at least 1960, first opening as a hostel during the winter ski months, and was carefully transformed into a four seasons bed and breakfast in 1987. It has operated as such ever since, keeping the character the Jones family built into it in the 19th century.
Today the inn pairs that history with modern comfort: free high speed WiFi throughout, Smart TVs preloaded with streaming, and thoughtful touches like plush robes and slippers in every room.
Local guide
The inn sits between two legendary ski mountains in one of Vermont's prettiest valleys. Here is how guests spend their days, winter through fall.
Sugarbush: 111 trails across 2,000 acres, one of New England's premier resorts. Mad River Glen: ride the last single chair lift in the country, skiers only, a short drive away.
Winter · paid lift tickets
Tube the Mad River, stroll the Mad River Path, hike the Long Trail, or ride gravel and mountain bike trails. Try a trail ride on Icelandic horses, or cast a fly rod.
Spring / Summer · mixed free & paid
Cruise rolling hills in orange, rust, amber, and red. Foliage season is the inn's busiest time and peak rates apply September 20 to October 19, so book early.
Fall · free to admireWaitsfield village, minutes away, has farm-to-table restaurants, pubs, and pizza spots the valley is known for, including American Flatbread, Mad Taco, and the 1824 House. Ask the inn for current favorites when you arrive. The Sugarbush golf club's 18 hole course is nearby; reserve tee times in advance.
The inn is at 243 Tremblay Rd, Waitsfield, VT 05673, in the Mad River Valley between Route 100 and the ski mountains. Burlington International Airport is about an hour's drive. Check-in is after 3:00 p.m.; call ahead if you will arrive later than 9:00 p.m.
